NEWS UPDATES:

4/29/2007 Rob: Sugar was indeed not feeling well, due to an abscess on her rear in one of her anal glands. We never knew that cats had anal glands, but sometimes you learn the most wonderful details just from being a cat owner. She had hidden the fact that she was having problems back there by always laying on it and not showing the swelling on her rear. We finally discovered the problem one evening after it had already ruptured and drained most of the way, leaving her feeling much better. Tania was so worried she insisted we take her to the closest after-hours vet (for the second time).

After shaving and cleaning her rear, they gave us antibiotic pills to administer daily and an elizabethan cat collar for her, to prevent her from causing any damage or infection in the abscess while it healed. As you can see in the last panel above, Sugar looked as if she had a megaphone attached to her head. SnowCrash tried to clean her rear for her (since she couldn't reach it), but Sugar told him in no uncertain terms that their relationship had not reached that level just yet. Fortunately after a follow-up visit on Friday (this originally happened on Monday night), we found that Sugar was indeed recovering well and could have her cone collar removed. Pity we didn't get more amusing pictures of the disgruntled and quite evil expression she bore while wearing it.
